Meta-Analysis on Effects of Domestic Psychotherapy Intervention on Childhood Trauma

Abstract
This study has been conducted to evaluate the effect size of domestic psychotherapy on childhood trauma. In order to conduct this study, 29 theses were selected through 4 databases. 185 effect size values exacted from the theses used meta-analysis program to calculate the whole effect size, and the effect size of domestic psychotherapy according to categorical variable and continuous variable. The effect sizes of trauma type are as follows: escaping from North Korea, multiple abuses, physical abuse, bullying at school, overindulgence, and rape. As a result, the effect size for the whole program turned out to be 0.004, which is very effective. As comparing the effect size according to the type of the psychotherapy program, the most effective program in order as follows: reality therapy, music therapy, integrative arts therapy, literature therapy, art therapy, play psychotherapy, and group counseling. The effect sizes according to dependent variables are as follows: emotional control, self-control, aggression, self-concept, relationship, behavior, emotionality, communication, peer group, social skill, PTSD, school adjustment, inconstant emotion. In addition, as the session continues, the effect size gets bigger, and as the longer the operating time, the smaller the effect size. As based on such study result, this thesis offers implications to apply psychotherapy on childhood trauma, and points out the direction of the follow-up study.
